Turmeric Golden Milk

By Edible Spaces Intern Yusuf Mohideen

INGREDIENTS

  • 1½ cups light coconut milk  (canned is best, but carton works too)

  • 1½ cups unsweetened plain almond milk (DIY or store-bought)

  • 1½ tsp ground turmeric

  • ¼ tsp ground ginger

  • 1 whole cinnamon stick (or ¼ tsp ground cinnamon)

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil

  • 1 pinch ground black pepper

  • Sweetener of choice (maple syrup, coconut sugar, honey)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. To a small saucepan, add coconut milk, almond milk, ground turmeric, ground ginger, cinnamon stick, coconut oil, black pepper, and sweetener of choice (1 tbsp).

  2. Whisk to combine and warm over medium heat. Heat until hot to the touch but not boiling (about 4 minutes) - whisking frequently.

  3. Turn off heat and taste to adjust flavor. Add more sweetener to taste or more turmeric or ginger for intense spice + flavor.

  4. Serve immediately, dividing between two glasses and leaving the cinnamon stick behind. Best when fresh, though leftovers can be stored covered in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Reheat on the stovetop or microwave until hot.

Turmeric-honey Face Mask

By Edible Spaces Intern Yusuf Mohideen

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder

  • 1 teaspoon organic apple cider vinegar

  • 1 ½ tablespoon organic honey

  • 1 teaspoon milk or yogurt

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Mix all the ingredients together till a paste-like consistency that will not drip off your face after it has been applied.

  2. Wash and dry your face first to remove any impurities then apply the mixture with your fingers or a makeup brush (be careful to avoid the eye area), spread the mixture sparsely so that the turmeric doesn't stain your skin colour.

  3. Allow the mask to sit on your face for 10-15 minutes.

  4. Rinse off with warm water and dry off using a rag cloth because the turmeric will definitely stain any material and if there is a yellow stain on your face, wait it out for a few hours, it's not permanent.

  5. Be sure to do this recipe on a non-busy day as it can be quite messy but the results will be so worth it so go give it a try!
